Elderly man dies at home on his roof

Germiston, GP 29 November 2012 11:00]

An 81 year old man has sadly died after an incident at his private residence in Homestead, Germiston this morning.

The elderly man had climbed up a ladder to apparently fix something on the home’s roof. The man’s wife was inside the house at the time and she said that she suddenly heard a loud thud and she went outside to see what had happened. After she was unable to get a response out of her husband on the roof, she called for assistance by paramedics.

When the paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the man lying on the roof. They immediately performed all necessary assessments, and it was determined that there were no signs of life. Sadly, there was nothing more that paramedics could do but declared the patient deceased.

The Fire and Rescue team from the Primrose Fire Department used specialised equipment to remove the man’s remains from atop the roof.

No physical injury was determined on the patient, and it is therefore suspected that the man had suffered a medical episode which led to his death. The local police were called for investigative purposes.
