Pedestrian and vehicle passenger killed in N4 collision

A pedestrian trying to cross the N4 highway was knocked by a car in the vicinity of the Middelburg dam, and was killed along with the vehicle’s front seat passenger.

The front of the vehicle was crushed in along with the left hand side of the car where the passenger had been seated.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the pedestrian’s body had been ripped apart as a result of the collision, and he had died on scene. Due to the extensive nature of the injuries that he had sustained, it was difficult for paramedics to determine how old the man was.

The passenger had been pulled from the car and it appeared that he had sustained a severe head injury. Sadly, nothing more could be done to save the man’s life and he too was declared dead on scene. He is believed to have been in his early 30’s.

The driver if the car was treated for slight injuries and he was transported to a nearby hospital but the provincial ambulance team.

Local police will investigate the cause of this fatal accident and determine who was at fault.
