A heavy electrical storm in the Roodepoort area has claimed the life of a man in his fourties and a building has caught fire due to a suspected lightning strike.
The man was on Main Reef Road behind the Westgate Shopping Center near the Princess Informal Location, when he was allegedly struck by lightning. The man was found lying underneath a tree where his body was badly burnt. There was nothing further that paramedics could do for the man and he was declared dead on scene.
A short while later reports came through that a lightning strike had hit a building on Christiaan De Wet road in Florida. Paramedics and the Fire Department responded to scene and fortunately no one had been injured.
