Pedestrians continue to be knocked down on our roads

[JHB Northern region, GP 28 March 2013]

Two separate collisions with pedestrians this morning has left a man deceased and another with critical injuries.

The first incident was reported to have happened on William Nicol Drive, just at the Engen Garage close to the intersection with Peter Place. A young man believed to have been in his 30’s allegedly ran across the road and was knocked down by a Mercedes Benz. The man was found by paramedics lying in the road and they worked together to try and save the man’s life.

He was in a critical condition, and despite all efforts to save his life, he died on scene. The woman who was driving the Merc was transported to Mediclinic Sandton by ambulance where she was treated for shock.

In the second incident, paramedics responded to the N1 at the Buccleuch interchange. A man had tried to cross over the highway and he was knocked by a car.

The man was found lying in the middle of the highway and life saving treatment was initiated on him. His injuries were extensive and severe and he was rushed by ambulance to the Charlotte Maxeke hospital for further care.
