One person has died and fourteen others have sustained various injuries after the taxi they were traveling in lost control on Ndwedwe Road between Tongaart and Veralum and rolled numerous times before coming to a halt off the road this morning.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the taxi on its side with extensive damage to the vehicle. The occupants of the taxi were found strewn across the grass verge near to the accident scene. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one commuter; a male had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The remaining fourteen patients male and female were treated for various injuries from suspected neck and back injuries to suspected head injuries. All patients were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical care.
It is believed that the driver of the taxi may have had some sort of mechanical problem which caused him to lose control but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
