Three construction workers died while two others were injured, one seriously so, after their vehicle overturned on the N3 near the Market Road off ramp in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon. Reports indicate that the vehicle was traveling on the north bound lane at around 15h00 when the driver lost control left the road, and rolled down a five meter embankment.
Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that two people a man and a woman in their forties had tragically died before our arrival. A female in her thirties had sustained life threatening injuries, Netcare 911 paramedics worked fervently for over an hour to resuscitate the female on scene; tragically she died on scene due to the extensive injuries that she sustained.
The two other patients were stabelised on scene before medics transported them to a local hospital for the care that they required.
