VANDERBIJLPARK – R57 Baddrifbrug near Stonehaven 8 July 2013 at 17:00
Eleven people were injured and one was killed this evening when the taxi they were traveling in overturned on the R57 in Vanderbijlpark near Baddrifbrug.
Paramedics that arrived on the scene explained that majority of the patients were ejected from the vehicle when it overturned several times. Bystanders on the scene explained that the taxi came to rest on the middle island of the road.
Paramedics found a man believed to be in his late 30’s with fatal injuries. He was declared dead on the scene. Another man in his 30’s and a woman in her 20’s was found with critical injuries. They were stabilised on the scene before being rushed off to Mediclinic Emfuleni for further medical care. Nine other people from the taxi sustained moderate injuries and were treated on the scene for possible spinal injuries and soft tissue injuries.
The exact cause of this incident is not yet known and will be investigated by the local authorities. Medical personnel explained that some of the people were thrown several meters from the vehicle during the rollover. The taxi was ripped to pieces. It is understood that there were no other vehicles involved in this collision.
