Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to a fire on Fenton Street in Meyerton this morning after 04h00.
Upon their arrival on scene they found that the fire department was already fighting the blazing flames of an apartment that caught alight. A man and woman were found in a serious condition, while three children, aged eighteen-months-old; three-years-old and seven-years-old respectively, tragically lost their lives during the fire.
The man and woman were treated on scene before they were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
Exact detail to the cause of the fire and preceding events will remain the subject of an investigation.
