A nine –year-old-boy sustained a serious injury while playing soccer at a field in Lenham Drive Phoenix this afternoon. Reports indicate that the child was playing a game with friends when he fell onto a reinforcement rod at around 16h30.
Netcare 911 paramedics and the EThekwini fire department arrived at the scene and found the boy with the steel rod pinned through his foot. Firemen used the Jaws of Life to cut the steel bar that entered from under the Childs foot and exited through the ankle.
After the patient was cut free and stabilised, he was transported to a local hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic for the care that he required.
