At around 12:30 this afternoon ER24 paramedics and other emergency workers and authorities were called to the Leisure Island lagoon in Knysna where three woman had apparently drowned.
When they arrived they found that three children, aged between 12 and 13, had been swimming in the lagoon and that resuscitation efforts were underway on them.
They were rushed to hospital but unfortunately died a short while later. It is suspected that they had been in the water for some time before being found.
The lagoon is known for very strong currents.
