Drowning in Pietermaritzburg

Earlier this afternoon a call for a drowning was received by the KZN EMS emergency call management center in Pietermaritzburg. An ambulance and advanced life support paramedic were immediately dispatched to the incident.

When paramedics arrived at the small holding in the Lindfield park area, they discovered that it was a eight year old boy that had drowned in small dam.

They immediately started an Advanced Life Support resuscitation on the child, which they continued for well over half an hour! However despite their best resuscitation efforts the child didn’t respond to treatment or any of the medication which they administered and the child was sadly declared dead, by the exhausted paramedics who had been working in the blazing afternoon heat.

The circumstances preceding the drowning are currently unknown and matter has since been taken over by the police.
