Durban taxi accident leaves eighteen injured

Eighteen people were injured, four critically so, after two taxi’s collided head – on along the M25 near the N2 on ramp this morning. Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the fire department arrived at the scene and found some of the commuters still trapped in the twisted frames of the vehicles. After triaging the injured it was found that four people were critically injured while fourteen sustained injuries ranging from serious to minor.

While the Netcare rescue officer and firemen used the Jaws of Life to free the injured, paramedics clambered into the twisted frames to stabilise the wounded. One of the critically injured females went into cardiac arrest and paramedics worked fervently to resuscitate her, within a few minutes they managed to regain her pulse.

All the injured were stabilised on scene, one of the critically injured were airlifted to hospital while the other patients were transported by ambulance to various hospitals in the area for the care that they required.
