ER24 paramedics were dispatched to the Vaal River near Vanderbijllpark where a man had apparently drowned.
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene to find a small group of young children that had difficulty in the water. A man apparently jumped into the water to assist the children, when he began to have difficulty himself. Another rescuer came to the children’s aid, and was successful in pulling them from the water.
The first rescuer who had difficulty in the water apparently did not surface after attempting to rescue the group of children.
The incident was handed over to SAPS and their Diving Unit.
The cause of the incident is unknown and investigations will be underway.
