Earlier this morning paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Service responded to an accident on the R56, 20km from Ixopo toward Richmond, in the Harry Gwala district of KZN. Paramedics treated, five patients on scene, who were injured when the during the single vehicle accident, where the vehicle reportedly overturned.
The patients, one of whom was critically injured, were transported to Christ the King hospital in Ixopo for continued medical care. The cause of this accident is being investigated by the police. It is raining across the province this morning and there are areas where there is reduced visibility.
Motorists are there for urged to:
• Decrease speed, according to road and weather conditions.
• Increase following distance (think that if the vehicle in front of you suddenly came to a dead stop, would you be able to stop without colliding with it without braking so harshly that the vehicle behind you would also be able to stop without colliding with you)
• Be mindful of other vehicles around you
• Switch head lights onto dim
• Maintain the road worthiness of the vehicle you drive
