A 7-year-old schoolgirl was critically injured when a mini bus crashed into a lamppost on Umgundlovu Street in Reservoir Hills, Durban this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found that the girl had sustained severe head injuries as a result of the collision.

On assessment, paramedics also discovered that her 17 schoolmates, aged between 7 and 9, suffered moderate to serious injuries.

Most are suspected to have sustained neck and spinal injuries.

It is alleged that the mini bus driver lost control of his vehicle as it drove down the hill after which it was halted by a lamppost.
