A three week old baby boy is in a critical condition after his mother who was carrying him was struck by a vehicle at the corner of Bluff Road and Edwin Swales Drive just after 8am this morning.

Rescue Care’s Operations Manager Rowan Scandroglio came across the collision just after it had occurred and found critically injured baby lying in the road way. The mother was lying next to her child in pain. Rowan immediately called for Advanced Life Support assistance and began manually ventilating the little boy. Once Rescue Care’s Advanced Life Support arrived the baby was stabilized and placed on specialized equipment before being rushed to Chief Nkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital for the further care that he required. The mother was also stabilized on scene before being transported to a area hospital for further care.

It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
