KZN EMS attends tragic collision at N3 on Van Reenen’s pass

This morning paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services responded to the N3 on Van Reenen’s pass (north bound) which is in the Uthukela district of Kwa-zulu Natal, South Africa.

The paramedics arrived on scene to discover that a truck and a double cab bakkie had collided. The paramedics immediately set about assessing the scene and determining how many people had been injured and what their injuries were.

Tragically they discovered that three people, two adults and a child, who had been traveling in the bakkie had been killed in the collision! A second child of about10-12 years old, who was the sole surviving occupant of the vehicle was treated by the paramedics for serious injuries. The truck driver, was not injured in the accident. The paramedics stabilized the child on scene before transporting the child through to hospital in Ladysmith, for continued medical care.

The cause of the collision and the preceding events are not known at this stage and are being investigated by the Police.

With another long weekend coming up and an expected increase in traffic volumes, motorists are please urged to be extremely cautious on the roads!
