Biker killed in pile up on the M4 near Riverside Road Durban

A biker has lost his life after he was involved in a multiple car pile up on the M4 near Riverside Road Durban around 12:30pm today.

Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find the freeway totally closed in both directions after three vehicles and a bike had collided on the south bound carriageway. Two of the vehicles and the bike had exploded after the initial impact and were totally engulfed in flames. Rescue Care paramedics quickly assessed the injured whilst Durban Fire department extinguished the vehicles on fire. The bike was stuck underneath one of the vehicles. Paramedics found that unfortunately the bike driver had suffered fatal injuries and had passed away before paramedics arrival. A further four people had sustained various injuries and were stabilized on the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for the care that they required.

It is unclear what caused the collision however all of the vehicles were travelling in a south direction. SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating the accident further.
