Fisherman drowns whilst fishing near Brighton Beach

Sea view

A 36 year old spear fisherman has tragically drowned near Brighton Beach yesterday afternoon.

Rescue Care paramedics received multiple emergency calls for a patient that had been rescued by lifeguards on Durbans Brighton beach in the Bluff. Paramedics arrived on scene to find the life guards doing CPR. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed and the patient was placed on a manual ventilator whilst resuscitation efforts continued. After 30 minutes of resuscitation paramedics felt a faint pulse. The male was immediately immobilized on a special stretcher before being carried up to an awaiting Rescue Care ambulance where he was rushed to King Edward Hospital.

The patient however passed away during the night at the hospital.

At this stage it is unclear what happened however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
