Acting MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison and also Health MEC, Dr. Sibongiseni Dhlomo, has wished commuters who sustained injuries following the accident where two trains collided at Berea Train Station in Durban yesterday, a speedy recovery.

Dhlomo has further called for the forensic investigation to be expedited to determine the cause of the accident and implementation of urgent preventative or remedial actions.

“An accident of this magnitude, where the lives of tons of commuters who rely on trains for transport to work and other destinations are endangered, should never happen again. We expect PRASA to speed up its investigation into the cause of yesterday’s accident and ensure that proactive safety measures are implemented outright.

We are already losing the lives of too many people on our roads, and the cost socio-economically is simply too huge to quantify. We wish all the injured commuters a speedy recovery,” said Dhlomo.
