A 34-year-old man was severely burned in an electricity substation in Edendale, Pietermaritzburg this morning.
ER24 paramedics arrived on Widford Road and found the man lying near the substation. Community members from a township neighbouring the industrial area had gathered around the man.
Paramedics immediately acted to treat his wounds, which covered over 70 percent of his body, and thereafter transported him to Edendale Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
It is unclear how the man got burned but he told paramedics that he had been living inside the station
