A man was seriously injured after a truck overturned on the N3 south near Tweedie this morning at around 02h30. Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics and the fire services arrived at the scene and found that the driver of the truck has sustained serious injuries and was still trapped in the twisted frame. While rescuers used the Jaws of Life to free the injured paramedics crawled into the wreckage to stabilise him.
After the patient was extricated and stabilised at the scene paramedics transported him to a Pietermaritzburg hospital for the care that he required. The roadway remained closed for several hours.
