Woman rescued down steep embankment in Welbedacht in the Durban Area

IMG-20141005-WA0008

Early this morning paramedics and rescuers were called to the Welbedacht area, inland from Durban, were a lady in here forties had fallen and tumbled about 200m down a steep embankment. The ladies house is close to the edge of the embankment and this is the second time the lady has had to be rescued after falling down the embankment.

When paramedics and rescuers arrived on scene this morning , in cold and wet conditions they had to clamber down to the lady who had fallen about half way down the 400m embankment. She had sustained serious injuries and was treated and stabilized down the embankment, before being placed in a specialized rescue stretcher, which paramedics used to carry her up the embankment in.

She was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

I would like to thank all the paramedics, rescuers and EMS personal that assisted on the scene, which include: the Durban Fire Department, SAPS, SAPS Search and Rescue officers and paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and Netcare911

We wish the lady a speedy recovery!
