A man in his 20s was killed and two others injured this afternoon when a taxi and bakkie collided head-on on the Hammersdale road in Hillcrest, KwaZulu Natal.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the two badly damaged vehicles stationed in the slow lane of the road.
On assessment of the scene, paramedics discovered that the driver of the taxi lay trapped in his vehicle and had sustained fatal injuries. Provincial services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped body.
The two occupants of the bakkie both sustained moderate injuries. They were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
