A man in his 30s was killed and three others injured this evening when three bakkies collided on Edendale Road in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found three bakkies stationed in the middle of the road. One of the bakkies came to rest on top of another after it rolled multiple times.

On inspection, paramedics discovered that one driver had sustained fatal injuries and lay trapped inside his vehicle.

Two other patients from the bakkies as well as a pedestrian also sustained injuries in the collision. One of the passengers from the bakkie was in a critical condition.

Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries, providing them with advanced life support before they were transported to nearby hospitals including Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for further treatment.

It is believe one of the bakkies lost control and collided with the two other vehicles. The driver of the vehicle that apparently caused the collision was not found on scene.

Local authorities were on scene to begin their investigations.
