Five men were killed this morning after their vehicle collided with a large truck on the N14 in Kuruman, Northern Cape.

On arrival, ER24 paramedics discovered that a light motor vehicle lay crushed beneath the large truck.

Trapped within the light motor vehicle lay five male patients, aged between 27 and 35 years. Unfortunately four of the men had already succumbed to their injuries. The fifth occupant was found to be in a critical condition.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the critically injured patient as well as the four bodies.

Once freed, paramedics treated the patient and immediately transported him to Kuruman Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Unfortunately the patient succumbed to his injuries at arrival at hospital.

The driver of the truck was apparently not found on scene.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene to begin their investigations.
