Six injured in Mitchells Plain collision into tree

Six people were injured this morning including two children, when a vehicle collided into a tree on Old Lansdowne Road in Micthells Plain in the Western Cape.

ER24 paramedics, as well as Life Healthcare paramedics, arrived on scene and found a light motor vehicle crushed against a tree and the side of the road. Parts of the wrecked vehcile lay all around the scene.

Paramedics began their assessment of the scene and found that six people had been injured, their injuries ranging from minor to critical. One of the critically injured patients lay trapped inside the vehicle. Two of the other occupants in the vehicle were children aged 8 years and 3 years.

Paramedics set out treating the patients while rescue services used the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped patient. Once freed from the vehicle, the patient was treated under advanced life support paramedics to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.

Both children required supervision under advanced life support paramedics due to the injuries they sustained to their head and faces.

Once all the patients were treated, they were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but , local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
