Hunter accidentally killed while hunting in Melmoth

On Saturday, 6 December 2014 at approximately 8:40 the victim, Rainer Carl Wellman (23) and his friends were hunting wild pigs at Boshoek farm at Mthonjaneni in Melmoth area. One of his friends shot and killed a wild pig.

The bullet accidentally went through and hit the victim. Wellman was injured and rushed to hospital where he was certified dead on arrival. A case of murder was opened at Melmoth police station for further investigation and a shotgun, allegedly used during the shooting, was confiscated.

It will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in the commission of an offence. No arrest made at this stage pending further investigation.
