Suspect arrested as hijacked vehicle and unlicensed firearm is recovered in KwaMashu

Yesterday, 17 December 2014, members of Public Order Policing were doing their Festive Season operations at KwaMashu hostel when they received information about a suspected hijacked motor vehicle in the area. The members proceeded to Musa Road at the hostel between the shacks where they spotted an Opel Astra vehicle fitting the same description given to them. The vehicle was searched and an unlicensed 9mm pistol was found. A suspect who was also in the vehicle was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. The said vehicle was circulated and came as a hijacked vehicle at Greenwood Park area this month. The suspect was further charged with possession of property suspected to be stolen. He is due to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court today, 18 December 2014 for possession of unlicensed firearm and for property suspected to be stolen.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for their good work that led to the arrest of the suspect. She encouraged the members to continue with their efforts to reduce crime in the province during this festive season. “Members of the community must also work together with the police in the fight against crime by providing valuable information about criminal activities in their areas,” she said.
