Several people have been killed overnight as a result of inclement weather across the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa.

In Umlazi, south of Durban, two people have been killed and three people have been injured in three separate incidents. Two people died in two separate incidents in which their informal dwellings in the D, and G sections collapsed. In a separate incident a tree fell on informal dwelling. A total of three people were injured in these incidents.

In the Marrianhill area near Impola taxi rank, one person was killed and another critically injured when the mud dwelling they were in collapsed from the rain.

In the Pietermaritzburg area two people have been killed. A five day old baby girl from Sweetwaters and a 77 year old man from Tailors Halt have died, reportedly after the houses they were in were struck by lightning.

There were also several reports of severe hailstorm in Pietermaritzburg, Stanger and Ixopo areas, which caused extensive damage to houses and vehicles.
