A woman who sustained severe burns to her body in the early hours of this morning was found in a critical condition.
ER24 Pietermaritzburg paramedics were called to attend to the patient who had sustained burn wounds.
On arrival at the Jika Joe Informal Settlement in Pietermaritzburg, paramedics found the woman lying on the floor in her room.
The woman, about 30 years of age, had sustained burns to more than half of her body.
It is understood she sustained the wounds from a petrol fire.
She was assessed and provided with advanced life support treatment.
She was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown.
Local authorities were on scene.
