Mitchells Plain police confiscate large quantity of drugs and 5 firearms

In relations to the broader issue of substance abuse and gangsterism, Mitchell’s Plain SAPS continues its focus on gangsterism and drugs. A reflection of this is the following success achieved through a good relationship with the community structures such as the Street Committees and Neighbourhood Watches who continually inform the police of where crime is committed. This information is being followed up immediately.

Monday (2015-02-16) at about 22:30 Mitchell’s Plain crime prevention unit arrested a 51 year old Tafelsig resident at a house in Honolulu Street, Tafelsig for possession of a large quantity of drugs. The members received a tipp off that drugs were being stored inside an informal dwelling on the premises.

During the searched the members discovered hidden inside the shack 5999 small packets of tik, 1346 mandrax tablets and 200 dagga stoppe with an estimated street value of R318 022, 00. The suspect will appear on Thursday (2015-02-19) in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate Court on the related charges.

Monday 16 February 2015 at about 11:25 the Mitchells Plain Police attended a murder scene. It is alleged that the 3 victims were sitting and eating in Symphony Walk, Town Centre, when they were approached by 2 unknown males that asked to sit with the victims. Then suddenly one suspect took out a firearm and started shooting at the victims aged between 22 and 35 years old. The 35 years old victim sustained head injuries and died on the scene. Mean whilst the 22 years old victim was wounded behind his right ear, ran into the Police Station and was taken to a nearby day Hospital for treatment.

The Mitchells Palin Police manage to arrest a 25 years old suspect that was found in Renoster, Street, Eastridge with a 0.22mm pistol. The suspect will soon appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate Court on charges of Murder, attempted murder and Illegal Possession of firearm and ammunition.

Monday (2015-02-16) at about 16:50 the Mitchells Plain SAPS members were attending to a shooting that occurred in Avro, Street, Rocklands. On members arrival to the scene they saw the suspect running carrying a Taurus 9 mm firearm. The members managed to apprehend the suspect a 25 years old man. The suspect will appear soon in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

At about 17:00 members were busy doing patrols when they received information that firearms is being stored at a house in Aquamarine, Street, Rocklands. The members followed up on the information and searched the house and recovered one Beretta shot gun with ammunition, a mortar explosives devise and four packets of tik.

Two suspects between the ages of 21 and 27 years old were arrested and will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate Court soon on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, explosive and drugs.

On Monday at about 12:00 the Mitchells Police were busy doing patrols in Klipspringer, Street, Eastridge when the members stopped and searched a suspicious man. The members searched the man and confiscated a Barrette Mod 950b 6.35 calibre firearm with live ammunition in the suspects possession. The suspect a 25 years old man appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate Court for Illegal Possession of a firearm and ammunition.

On Wednesday (2015-02-18) at about 03:45 the Mitchells Plain police were busy doing patrols when they saw an unknown male walking in Loftus, Street, Beacon Valley. The suspicious male saw the police and started to run then the members chased and caught the suspicious man. The members searched the 24 years old suspect and confiscated a Revolver firearm in his possession. The suspect appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate Court for Illegal Possession of firearm.

The Mitchells Plain Cluster conducted 10 tracing operations and 72 houses searched for drugs that led to the arrest of 88 suspects. 82 g of heroine, 6185 g of Tik, 1454and half mandrax tablets, 107 g of dagga, 1 road block that led to 11 fines issued with the total value of 14000-00, 4 stolen vehicles recovered.

The Mitchells Plain cluster police management want to thank all community structures of Mitchells Plain who joined the South African Police Service in combating crime, further we urge the community to remain vigilant and to contact their respective Sector Commanders and for those who have not yet joined our structures to join us by becoming part of their street committees in their respective streets.
