Informal dwellings ablaze in Durban North

Emergency Services are on scene of a large fire which has destroyed several hundred Informal dwellings in Parkington Ave in the Greenwood area, in the Durban North area.

The cause of the fire which broke out earlier today is still not known. The fire has destroyed almost 200 informal dwellings. Fire fighters from eThekweni Fire Department have been fighting the blaze, which was being fuel by a strong wind. Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services are standing by at the scene. At this stage there have been no injuries reported. However they have treated a lady, who collapsed after seeing that her house had burnt down.

At the time of this report there were a few informal dwellings still burning, with most of them having already being burnt to the ground. There is still a thick cloud of smoke in the area as hot spots continue to smoulder, with only twisted metal sheeting and piles of ash showing where the dwellings were.
