Drugs worth R1.5million seized in vehicle search in Cape Town

On Friday (2015-03-06) at about 08:10 members of the HAWKS followed up information of a Quantum taxi that was going to do a drug deal at McDonalds in Ottery. Members then observed the taxi and saw a grey Renault pulling up next to it. The driver of the Renault off-loaded a box into the taxi and a plastic bag was then loaded into the Renault.

The taxi and the Renault was searched and about 25 000 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R1 500 000 was seized. An undisclosed of amount of cash was also confiscated and handed in as evidence.

Two suspects aged 28 and 53 were arrested on charges of drug dealing. They are currently in custody at Grassy Park SAPS and are due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.
