A collision between a large truck and light motor at the Snake and Tom Jones Road intersection in Benoni, has left one man dead this morning.
Paramedics from the ER24 Johannesburg East branch arrived on scene and found the crumpled motor vehicle in the centre isle of the road. The entire right side of the vehicle had been crushed from where the truck had collided with it.
On assessment, paramedics discovered a 28-year-old-man trapped in the driver’s seat in a critical condition.
Paramedics immediately began their advanced life support treatment while rescue services used the jaws-of-life to free the man from the vehicle. Unfortunately, shortly after treatment began, the patient’s condition deteriorated. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead shortly after.
The driver of the truck fortunately did not sustain any injuries.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
