One person has been killed and another was fortunate to escape with minor injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in somehow lost control and collided with a tree on the M1 Higginson Highway near Bayview just before 2pm today.
Rescue Care paramedics arrived on the scene to find the severely damaged vehicle on the centre medium of the busy highway. Paramedics found that the driver had suffered fatal injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for him. He was declared deceased on the scene. The passenger was fortunate to escape with minor injuries and was transported by Rescue Care to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.
At this stage it is unclear what caused the single vehicle to lose control and collide with the tree however SAPS were on scene and will be investigating further.
