A man lost his life and two people were injured following an accident on Justice Mahomed Street in Brooklyn, Pretoria.
Netcare 911 paramedics received a call for assistance just after 23h30 and upon arrival at the scene found that a light delivery vehicle and motor vehicle were involved in the accident.
The light delivery vehicle left the roadway and crashed against a tree, while the motor vehicle overturned and came to a standstill on its roof.
Upon assessment of all the occupants, paramedics found that a man travelling in the light delivery vehicle tragically lost his life during the crash, while the two occupants from the motor vehicle sustained moderate to serious injuries.
The two injured patients were treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.
The deceased man was entrapped in his vehicle and the fire department had to make use of the Jaws of Life to extricate his body from the vehicle.
Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain the subject of a police investigation.
