Netcare 911 paramedics, other services and members of the Roodepoort, Brixton and Rosepark Fire Departments attended to a building fire at the corners of Ontdekkers and Thirteenth Avenue in Roodepoort last night.
Upon their arrival on scene they found that a section of a building was on fire and fire department members immediately started fighting the blazing fire.
Emergency personnel immediately started treating numerous people for smoke inhalation. Upon assessment of all the residents, paramedics found that three people were in a serious condition and after receiving treatment at the scene, the three patients were transported to hospital for further care.
Tragically a child died during the blazing fire.
Exact detail surrounding the cause of the fire and preceding events will remain the subject of an investigation.
