Man killed in burning truck

A man was killed this morning after a truck burst into flames on the R56 in Richmond, outside of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene, and on their arrival, they found a wreckage of a truck parked on the side of the road. The cargo of wooden beams were spread across the entire scene.

Prior to the arrival of paramedics, fire services had extinguished the fire, which had broken out when the truck collided with a rock embankment.

When paramedics assessed the lone occupant, they found that the man had already succumbed to his multiple fatal burn wounds. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead.

Fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to later free the trapped body.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
