At least 20 injured as grandstands collapsed at the Esselen Park Stadium in Worcester

At least 20 people were injured this evening after a number of grandstands collapsed at the Esselen Park Stadium in Worcester, Western Cape.

ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, responded to the scene, and on arrival, found numerous patients lying around on the scene near the collapsed grandstands.

On assessment, paramedics found that roughly 20 people had had sustained minor to moderate injuries when the stands collapsed.

Fortunately no-one had sustained any serious or fatal injuries.

Paramedics immediately set up a triage area and began treating the patients. Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for urgent medical care.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known but authorities were on scene to investigate further.
