KZN MEC condemns murder of Camperdown farm owner and businessman

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has strongly condemned the callous murder of Camperdown farm owner and businessman, Krishna Govender, who was shot and killed during a robbery at his home yesterday morning.

The full details of the incident remain a subject of police investigations, however, police have confirmed that Govender was shot and killed by armed robbers who were ransacking his home.

It is alleged that the suspects entered the Govender home and held his family at gunpoint.
It is further alleged that a scuffle apparently ensued between the gang and Govender. He was shot and killed and the robbers fled the scene.

Today (2 September 2015), Mchunu expressed anger, shock and deplored this despicable murder, urging anyone who might have any information that might lead to arrests of those responsible to come forward.

“It is extremely saddening to learn that a husband and father of four children, has been killed in such a terrible manner in front of the loved ones he was only trying to protect. The murder of Mr. Govender, who has been described as ‘people loving’ is condemned in the strongest possible terms. I find it to be totally abhorrent, senseless and inhumane. We will follow this case until there are arrests and convictions.”

“I am, however, assured that members of the police are working around the clock to ensure that those who are responsible for this cold-blooded murder and attack are brought to justice as soon as possible,” said Mchunu.

He also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Govender.
