ER24 Potchefstroom honoured as unsung heroes

ER24 Potchefstroom is humbled to have been honoured as “unsung heroes” at a special function held at the Potchefstroom Rugby Club recently.

NCC Potch Real and Potch Pay It Forward presented an Unsung Hero Award certificate to all ER24 Potch staff, on November 28, in recognition and appreciation of their contribution to building and strengthening the community by going above and beyond the call of duty.

Just over a year ago, ER24 Potchefstroom attended to a collision between a bakkie and truck that sadly claimed a man’s life. His three children (two boys and a baby girl), and their mother were critically injured.

The lady was recovering in hospital when the man’s funeral was held. ER24 Potch crews volunteered to take her to the funeral and return her to hospital. The collision not only shocked the community but brought them together to help where possible.

A number of businesses and caring individuals got together and started a project called Potch Cares. The community helped the traumatised family in a number of different ways including donating items of need.

Apart from their assistance at the above incident and others, ER24 Potch was honoured for their participation in projects like helping paint road markings, assisting community police forums with patrols, bringing about health awareness, donating items where possible to worthy causes and participating in other community-driven initiatives.

Gavin Edwards, the ER24 Potchefstroom branch manager, said, “We are quite humbled. We don’t really see ourselves as heroes. We enjoy being close to the community. We enjoy doing what we do. We get support from the ER24 Head Office. Being involved in the community and making a difference is our passion. The team is a little shocked, however, thrilled that their efforts, big and small, are appreciated. We are extremely grateful and thank all involved, including Garnish Restaurant that sponsored a great meal at the function. We will continue to do what we do.”
