17 injured in Easter Sunday crash

Seventeen people have been injured four seriously so after a taxi and a car collided at the intersection of Smith Street and Gardiner Street on Easter Sunday just before 10am.

Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene and found total chaos. A fully loaded taxi had collided with a car in the junction after which the taxi overturned. Bystanders rushed to the taxi and lifted it back onto its wheels to help free the injured commuters. One passenger was entrapped in the wreckage and the Durban Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the patient free. Once all of the injured had been stabilized on the scene they were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however the necessary authorities were on scene and will be investigating further.
