A father and son were injured in the early hours of this morning in a shooting incident at a residence on Erwee Road in Ficksburg in the Free State.
It is understood that the father heard a commotion in his home when he went to investigate. It is then believed that an unknown number of gunmen opened fire, injuring the father and 20-year-old son.
Members of the community had apparently transported the patients to a nearby hospital, where they were met by hospital and ER24 staff.
On assessment, it was discovered that the father sustained a gunshot wound to his chest while the son sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Both patients were stabilised at hospital and later transported to Mediclinic Hoogland for urgent treatment.
Local authorities were on the initial scene for further investigations.
