A man, believed to be in his 20s, was left critically injured last night after he fell off the back of a moving bakkie on Frikkie Meyer Road in Kathu in the Northern Cape.
ER24 paramedics had been standing by at a nearby hospital when they received the emergency call.
Upon arrival, paramedics found the patient lying against a telephone pole.
Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained a serious injury to his head and well as one of his legs, leaving him in a critical condition.
The patient was immediately treated for his injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, paramedics transported the patient to Kathu Provincial Hospital for further treatment.
It is understood that that the man lost his footing while on the back of the vehicle.
The bakkie was apparently not found on the scene.
