Woman rescued after fall in Lekgalametse Nature Reserve

Limpopo: On Sunday, 24 July 2016, a group of women from Matloulela village, Maake went to the mountains of the Lekgalametse Nature Reserve to cut grass. One woman slipped, fell and broke her ankle. Some of the women walked out to alert the Police while some stayed with the unfortunate woman on Sunday and Monday night.

The Air Wing from the SAPS attempted to assist but due to cloudy, misty and rainy conditions could not access the area.

Members of the Search and Rescue Unit, K9 and EMS from Makhado and Giyani reached the area early Tuesday morning and succeeded in bringing the woman to safety. The terrain was so hazardous, that members had to take turns in carrying the woman on their backs.

She was taken to the Dr CN Phatudi Hospital in a satisfactory condition.
