Car crashed into tree in Gerhardville – north of Johannesburg.

Just after 10pm EMER-G-MED’s M05, A01 and A08 along with a number of other services responded to reports of a serious collision on the M26 (Erasmia Road), in Gerhardville – north of Johannesburg.

On arrival paramedics found that a car had gone off the road and collided with a tree. All the car’s occupants were found outside the vehicle – lying across the scene.

Paramedics assessed the injured finding that a man in his 30s, who was believed to have been the driver, sustained fatal injuries and showed no signs of life. He was declared dead on the scene.

One female patient sustained a severe head injury and was in a critical condition, requiring rapid Advanced Life Support intervention. The patient was intubated and put on life support before being rushed to hospital by another private ambulance service.

Three other patients, including two children aged two and fifteen, sustained moderate injuries. They were also treated on-scene before being transported to a nearby facility for further management.

The South African Police Service’s specialist Accident Investigation Unit were called to the scene to investigate further.
