Fire dept crews, paramedics save newborn’s life

Fire department crews and paramedics successfully resuscitated a baby that was born at the Diepsloot Fire Station last night.

A woman believed to be 30 years of age gave birth to the baby at the station however, fire department crews had to begin CPR on the newborn as it had no clinical signs of life upon delivery.

ER24 Joburg North paramedics arrived on scene and continued with CPR and advanced life support treatment on the baby boy. After stabilising the baby on scene, ER24 paramedics rapidly transported the baby to an appropriate medical facility for further specialised care.

ER24 Joburg North paramedic, Anthony Lledo, said, “Diepsloot fire crews performed incredibly well, playing an essential role in the patient care and management. I am really pleased by the way ER24, Life Healthcare paramedics and the Fire crews worked together, focused on the patient and doing what was best for the newborn baby.”
