Woman killed, two others injured in Howick industrial incident

A woman was killed and two others were injured when several large bags of animal feed fell on top of them at an industrial park in Howick earlier this afternoon.

At approximately 1.45pm paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found members from another service as well as security guards assisting the three women. It is understood that they managed to lift several of the bags to gain access to them.

One of the women was in a critical condition. She had sustained severe chest and head injuries. While paramedics were busy treating her, her condition rapidly deteriorated and she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics performed CPR for almost an hour but were unable to revive her. She was later declared dead on the scene.

The other two women sustained serious injuries. Both of them were treated for multiple chest as well as possible internal injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital by another ambulance service.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet clear. It is understood that the women were busy offloading some of the bags with animal feed when it fell on top of them. Paramedics handed the incident over to the police for further investigation.
