Collision on the N12 at the K43 intersection in Lenasia.

Late on Sunday night EMER-G-MED’s L01 responded to reports of a serious collision on the N12 at the K43 intersection in Lenasia.

On arrival paramedics found that a car had collided with the side of a truck leaving the driver heavily entrapped and critically injured – sustaining a serious head injury and multiple facial fractures.

L01’s paramedic worked effortlessly to stabilise the entrapped patient, performing multiple Advanced Life Support interventions and placing the injured man on life support.

Fire and rescue services used the “jaws of life” and other hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the entrapped patient, a process that took over an hour.

Once freed from the wreckage the driver was further stabilised on scene before being transported by another ambulance service with L01’s paramedic on-board to Lenmed Hospital for urgent specialist care.

Local traffic authorities were on the scene to investigate the exact events leading up to the crash.
